Today the kids and I visited my Great Grandma. This tradition to visit her in Dearborn has been an adventure as long as I can remember – 20 years or so. Each and every time that we visit, I absolutely must make a detour to Shatila for a special treat. Located right in the heart of Dearborn, Michigan, I would describe it as the Arabic Dairy Queen. They have a great assortment of items that will satisfy any sweet tooth. It really does not matter what you get, all pastries are priced lower than one would think; two pink deserts below were $1.50 a piece.
Here is a little about them from their website:
At Shatila Food Products, founded in 1979 by Riad Shatila, bakers labor lovingly as did old world artisans thousands of years ago in the Middle East. Tissue-thin pastry swabbed with rich, pure butter, enfolds crunchy fresh nuts and a sweet sugar syrup. All natural…no preservatives. Authentic, old world baking in modern, high volume ovens. We bake our unique recipes with only the highest quality hand-chosen ingredients. Our commitment is to guarantee delivery of only the freshest, most scrumptious desserts available.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention – watch out for many customers walking out with their pastries in huge boxes. I have seen someone carry at least five boxes!
