Just today I read the account of over 100,000 protesters rioting in Greece due to budget cuts. These cuts were due to an agreement to keep Greece from defaulting on its debt. The budget cuts axed one-fifth of civil service jobs and reduced the minimum wage by a fifth. Protestors took to the streets in massive defiance of these austerity measures in which would force the government of Greece to live within its means.
According to The Blaze: “At least 10 buildings were on fire, including a movie theater, bank and cafeteria, and looters smashed dozens of shops in the worst riot damage in years. Dozens of police officers and at least 37 protesters were injured, 23 suspected rioters were arrested and a further 25 detained.”
Upon reflection, how did so many people become so dependent on government and what would any rational person believe that violence is the answer?
